Philanthropic Service

The club hosts a Read > Lead > Achieve event in September as well as a Fraternity Day of Service in March in support of Literacy in the Charlotte area. For this year’s Fraternity Day of Service, we partnered with Union Preparatory Academy in Indian Trail to support young readers in grades K–5. Our focus was on 14 classrooms in grades 3–5, where we shared Pi Beta Phi’s love of reading by celebrating Read Across America and reading the opening chapters of The Wild Robot by Peter Brown—encouraging students to discover the rest of the story on their own! All 351 students received a bookmark to color and they were each able to choose a book to add to their personal library. We also left 10+ books in every classroom we visited and donated an additional 150 books to K–2 classrooms. With 14 of our members volunteering in the classrooms and the support of our entire club through book and financial donations, this day was truly a team effort. Making a difference, one book at a time.
